And, the reality is that, at this writing, some 225,000 Americans have died in the days of COVID. Unsettling is the report that experts believe that at least 130,000 did not have to die, but for the response of the current administration. I am not mathematical so I have no formula to create or offer, but in my heart I believe the “cementing” of a conservative majority does not equal better times for Americans. And, I will say it, there is a chance that many Americans in the future will needlessly die due to their priorities, programs, policies, and rulings.

We are now the children separated from an America we once thought we knew. It wasn’t perfect, but we felt we were somehow all in it together, with a good chance that we could do better. The Carter- Reagan match up in 1980 put us at a “Y” in the road. On the ballot that year were solar panels on the White House roof, strong faith, and, now we know, a lifetime of community service in the name of housing and peace, providing energy and a pathway to humanity, dignity, and our better angels.

We stand at another “Y” in the road, but from this vantage point it seems to loom much larger. It seems like this vote is just a start to the work ahead. And, it is a necessary important step. Send allies to the White House, Congress, West Virginia Legislature, and County offices.Heck, this Carter/Independent is prepared to vote for a Democrat he wouldn’t vote for in any other year. It is that serious. Understand, I wouldn’t vote Republican against him, but I would not cast a vote for him in past elections. But I am hoping that he will follow the lead of his colleagues, as he has demonstrated in the past a proclivity to assume leadership unasked in attempt to lead folks to where they do not necessarily want to go.

For now, it’s all good. Go Blue!!!
